The Breath of God

When Jesus appeared to his disciples after the crucifixion, John tells us:

“… he breathed on them and said, ‘Receive the Holy Spirit.'” John 20:22

This passage reminds me of the hymn, Breathe on Me Breath of God.”   It was written by Edwin Hatch, an English theologian who was born in 1835.  He eventually became the Bishop of Manchester and was well-known as a lecturer.  Hatch published the song privately in 1878 in a pamphlet entitled, “Between Doubt and Prayer.”  It was first published publicly in 1886.  I hope you enjoy it as I do.
