Great Things Happen When God Mixes with Us

My post about the laity as a motley crew made me think about this song.  It’s one we often use on Lutheran Via De Cristo weekends and it reminds me that we don’t do anything in our own strength–it’s the power of God working with us, both lay people and pastors.  It’s composed by Carey Landry, who wrote other favorites such as Only A Shadow and Abba Father.  Once you get it in your head, you’ll be singing it all day!

Only a Shadow

Michele had a great post earlier today.  It reminded me of this song which has been a favorite of mine since I went on a Via de Cristo weekend in 1990.  In this life, even if we have been reborn, we are only a shadow of what we should be and what we will be when we meet Jesus face to face.

“Only a Shadow,” reminds us that compared to God’s love, ours is a mere shadow.

lyrics

The Love we have for you oh Lord
is only a shadow of your love for us
Only a shadow of your love for us
your deep abiding love. Our own belief in you oh Lord
is only a shadow of your faith in us
Only a shadow of your faith in us
your deep and lasting faith.

Our lives are in your hands
Our lives are in your hands
Our love for you will grow oh Lord
your light in us will shine

The dreams we share today oh Lord
are only a shadow of your dreams for us
Only a shadow of your dreams for us
if we but follow you.

The joy we feel today oh lord
Is only a shadow of your joys for us.
Only a shadow of your joys for us
when we meet face to face.
