Holy! Holy! Holy! was written by Reginald Heber almost two hundred years ago. Heber became a rector of his father’s church near Shrewsbury England and served there for 16 years. During that time he began writing hymns, hoping to improve the singing at this small congregation. Over the course of his life, he wrote more than 57 hymns.
The words to his hymn Holy, Holy, Holy are taken from Revelation 4:11, which describes the throne of God. Special emphasis is given to 4:8:
“Each of the four living creatures had six wings and was covered with eyes all around, even under its wings. Day and night they never stop saying:
“‘Holy, holy, holy
is the Lord God Almighty,’
who was, and is, and is to come.”
As you listen to this familiar hymn, ponder the everlasting holiness and power of God.

” Not until we have become humble and teachable, standing in awe of God’s holiness and sovereignty, acknowledging our own littleness, distrusting our own thoughts, and willing to have our minds turned upside down, can divine wisdom become ours.”
