Lit! by Tony Reinke — Book Review

This book is subtitled, A Christian Guide to Reading Books, and it has many good suggestions about what and how to read. I loved it because I agree with the author on so many levels. I was thrilled to find someone else who reads more than one book at a time! Someone who believes that we can grow in our faith through reading, even reading books that are not specifically Christian! Who writes in the margins of books, and underlines them (the books you own, of course)! Who understands that reading with an e-reader is not the same experience as reading a book! Tony Reinke and I are definitely kindred spirits!

He emphasizes the importance of Bible reading in order to develop wisdom and discernment in choosing what else we will read. Having a Christian worldview allows us to “separate the wheat from the chaff” in the plethora of reading material available to us. He also recommends old books, because such classics have stood the test of time.

Here are a few of the topics covered:

  1. Priorities for deciding what to read
  2. Benefits of reading non-Christian books
  3. Benefits of reading fiction
  4. Ways to find more time to read
  5. Starting a reading group
  6. How parents and pastors can encourage reading

It’s a short book, but there’s much more. If you’re a book lover, you won’t want to pass this one by!

VERDICT: 5 STARS.
