Now and Not Yet by Ruth Chou Simons — Book Review

Are you going through a difficult season in your life? Are you disappointed in your current situation? Wondering if you will ever achieve your goals? If so, this book will help you to see where you are as an opportunity to “press in” and grow. We are all living in the “now but not yet” part of our journey with God.

Using her own experiences, and biblical examples the author guides the reader into paths of perseverance and acceptance when we feel restless and unfulfilled. It is our right now that matters most and we must live it to the best our ability, trusting that God is at work. Each chapter asks some pointed questions (you could journal these) and ends with a liturgy.

When walking through difficulties, she suggests:

!. Talk about it with a trusted friend

2. Feed on spiritually nourishing resources

3. Create rhythms that help you remember God –journaling, listening to music, daily prayer

4. Ask others to speak truth to you

At the end of the book, there are some ways to help you “flip the script” by reminding yourself of the things God has already done in your life. She also includes the theological basis for “now and not yet” with many encouraging references from Scripture.

VERDICT: 5 STARS. Well written, completely biblical and helpful.

I received a free e-copy of this book in return for a fair and honest review.
