This is the prayer of confession used in our church on Pentecost. The emphasis on the Holy Spirit is a little different, and something to think about. When have you resisted the Spirit?
“We confess that we have resisted your Holy Spirit whom you sent to unify the church and to give life to our work and worship. We have prized those things that divide us, worked hard to maintain the barriers of race and status that keep us apart, and have allowed the fires of our discipleship to dwindle into cold ashes.
Stir us up, O God. Forgive our frigid indifferences towards you, our neighbors and the world. Remove from us all that you find undesirable, then restore in us the gift of your Holy Spirit. Provide us with the spark and reignite the flames of desire within us, so we might once again burn brightly for you and be called your faithful people. This we ask in the name of Him who prayed that all may be one, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen”
